Announcing the immediate closure of in-studio programs

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of our in-studio programs effective immediately.

Our team has continued to weigh our options following yesterday’s announcement by the Government of Alberta as well as today’s declaration of a State of Emergency by the City of Calgary – and we have decided that the risk is far too great for our staff and our community of artists to maintain our in-person studio programs and supports.

This was not a decision that was made lightly.

We know that our community continues to struggle with isolation and mental health challenges, heightened as a result of the pandemic and its associated lockdown measures. We knew that once we started our transition to reopening, it gave our artists an opportunity to feel like they belonged, to engage with their peers, and to create amazing works of art in a fully-supported studio environment. Rest assured, we will be doing everything we can, in coordination with government guidelines, to prepare for an eventual re-opening once it is safe to do so.

Effective tomorrow, November 26, 2020, our team is pleased to ramp up its supports for our visual arts participants with daily online/virtual sessions via Zoom, our online art prompts and workshops, as well as our monthly flux kits.

Please contact Kyra at 403.253.3174 ext. 0 or email her at kyra.ball@ouriac.ca to learn about when you can register for your Zoom session. The same goes for our dance programs – for more information about digital programs for dance, please contact Talia by email at talia.potter@ouriac.ca.

No matter what – we are here to support you. You have so much creativity to offer the world, and it is our job to make sure that nothing stops you from expressing that, and for us to put a deserving spotlight on your talents and skills.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jung-Suk (JS) Ryu
